21 weeks

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long - the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like he's practicing martial arts as his initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to his activity as you get to know him better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now.

20 1/2 weeks

We are officially over half way! Less than 20 weeks to go. I have a doctor's appointment today, so we will get to see how everything is going.

20 weeks = Half Way!

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel - the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom - the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)

He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black ,sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper.

New-to-me Car

Ever since we found out I was pregnant, we have been looking hardcore for a new car. Yesterday, Matt was off work and continued the car shopping. We have looked at so many cars, that I just kind of lost hope that we were going to find anything reliable and the right price. Matt found this Rav4 at one of the local dealerships. The price on the car was much more than we could afford, but he thought he could talk them down a bit. He called me to tell me about it, and I looked online and discovered that it was listed online about $4000 cheaper. That is a considerable amount for a used car. I can see coming off that much for a new car, but used cars don't usually have that much wiggle room. Anyways, Matt told the salesman that I had seen the car listed for X amount. The salesman said that there was no way that this car was listed for the price. Well Matt told him to go look on the internet. Sure enough, we were right! Anyways, to make a long story short, we got the internet price and the trade-in price of our truck that we were wanting. We were able to write a small little check last night (Woohoo Dave Ramsey!!). I am so excited! Here are some pictures from the dealers website. It was raining so hard last night, I didn't get any of me in the car. That will have to come later. Does it look like a mommy-to-be car? :)

Weekend

We went to Memphis for my nieces birthday party. Hopefully I can "steal" some from my sister when she posts hers. Anyways, we got a few pictures in front of my parents Christmas tree. I am 19 1/2 weeks!

Please ignore the shadow that my huge hair causes!

19 weeks

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! His brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that he may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to him, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom - about the size of a large heirloom tomato. His arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of his body now. His kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on his scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on his skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, Matt and I headed over to Memphis to spend some time with my family. We got to leave Wednesday morning and didn't have to come home until Saturday afternoon! The holiday was filled with lots of good food, shopping, and time with the family. I didn't take many pictures, so I will have to wait to "borrow" some from my sister and mom. Below is just a random assortment of pictures I do have and want to share.

Friday afternoon (after I had been out since 3:20 in the morning for Black Friday with my sister) my mom and I went to Babies R Us to see if we could find the bedding I had been looking at on the internet. We don't have a Babies R Us in Auburn, so I was excited to go see the bedding in person. When we got to the store, we couldn't find it anywhere. I was so upset. I knew I could order it online, but I really wanted to see it in person just to make sure. I started walking around the store to look at other stuff when I spotted the bedding in the sale section! I was very excited. Mom and I did not go there with the intent to purchase the bedding, just to look and make sure. But when we saw the sale price, we knew we had to jump on it. It was the last set the store had, and we bought all the accessories they had as well. We are still missing the rug and the wall decals, but we will just order those online. Below is a great picture of what I hope it will look like when I'm finished!

On Thursday, all the men helped prepare the turkey. They decided to deep fry it since they haven't done that in a while. They sure look hard at work, don't they! :)

My mom is so impressed with how much I'm showing. I think it is funny, because there are still several people at work that do not know I'm pregnant. I think it is pretty obvious, but oh well! Here are some 18 1/2 week pictures!

Happy Thanksgiving and 18 weeks!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope things are good wherever you are today! We are in Memphis celebrating with my family. I will update with more pictures later.

Today is 18 weeks for me and Cooper! Here is what is going on inside.

Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs - movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in his final position, although they are standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he is born.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

I had just got through removing all the dead annuals from my flower pots, and just forgot to take this last pot into the garage for winter. Matt comes into our room and says, "Honey, you have a new flower growing in your pot." Of course it had to be Roxie. I believe she looked at that pot and thought, "This is just my size!" Anyways, here are some pictures for you to enjoy. Please ignore all the dirt!

17 week update

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord - his lifeline to the placenta - is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs about 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and he's around 5 inches long from head to bottom. He can move his joints, and his sweat glands are starting to develop.

It's A...

BOY!!!

We went to our doctor's appointment yesterday to find out the sex of our baby. When you go in to have the ultrasound, the technician doesn't tell you right away. So, you have to sit there for about 5 minutes before she will ask if you want to know. I'm sure this is to make sure the baby is healthy before proceeding, but I was so nervous. I did have a big clue when she said that my baby is very, very low. So low in fact that I was confused as the why my "baby bump" is not that low. She told me that the "bump" I am seeing right now is actually all my guts pushed up and out of the way for the baby. I was surprised to hear that! But she said that since he is so low, all those organs have to go somewhere. She said it will only get worse the farther along I am. I think it is funny that this whole time I have been thinking that my guts are actually my baby. Oh well! Anyways, the ultrasound went fine. Everything was normal. It is amazing what they can see with them! We also got a DVD and CD of the ultrasound. If I can figure out how to upload it, then you will get to see some of it yourself! After the ultrasound, we went out in the waiting room and sat for an hour and a half waiting on the doctor! They told us that he was about 30 minutes behind, but it ended up being much longer than that. We didn't get out of the office until almost 6. By that time, my mom was freaking out. She just knew that something was terribly wrong and that is why we hadn't called. But I think she got over it when she heard that she was having her first grandson! She is so excited! One of the first things she said was, "But Lydia, we don't know what to do with all those parts!" You see, I don't have any brothers and my sister only has girls, so we aren't used to little boys. It will definitely be an adventure! I do feel a little bad for Matt's parents because all they have had is boys! They were ready for a little girl. But at least my mother-in-law knows what to do with all of those parts!! :) We decided on a boy and girl's name a long time ago that way we could tell everyone as soon as we found out. So his name is ...

Cooper Steven Tignor

Here are some more cute pictures from the baby shower I went to this weekend. I got these from my friend Brooke's Facebook. I think I forgot to mention yesterday, that the other pictures are from Katie's blog. Thanks girls! Look at yesterday's blog to see names and how far along everyone is.

Weekend Pictures

This weekend was a busy weekend for me and Matt. We worked long and hard on the nursery. Matt had to move a lot of furniture around to make the room better suited for a nursery. We were also trying to organize all the goodies that my sister gave me a couple weeks ago. On Saturday afternoon, I went to a baby shower for Brooke, one of my friends from Share Group. Matt and I are so blessed to be a part of a church with so many young married couples. At the baby shower, there were four of us pregnant. We decided to take some fun pictures.

Lauren is 39 weeks and ready to pop! She is due Friday with a little girl named Ella!

Brooke is in all black. She is the one we had the baby shower for. She is 32 weeks and due in January with a little girl named Olive.

Katie is next to me and also closest to me in weeks. She is 21 weeks and due in March with a precious boy named Maddox.

I'm sitting at 16 weeks and will find out what the sex of our baby is today!

A nice close-up shot of our bellies!

16 weeks

Here is the 16 week update:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long and 3 1/2 ounces.

His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Sorry

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while. I forgot to take my 15 week picture which usually leads to a post. Also this past weekend, Matt and I went to a funeral for my Uncle John. I don't really feel like posting about that. Anyways, tomorrow I will be 16 weeks and then Monday we find out the sex of the baby. So far the votes are about even. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Also, I am feeling the baby more and more. Usually it is at night when I am laying down on my back and being still. Matt wants to feel it so much, but I don't think you can feel it on the outside yet. Anyways, Matt is too impatient to sit still long enough to feel anything. We do have a girl name and boy name picked out ready to go. When we find out Monday, we will definitely share what the name will be. So far, we have kept it secret. I just know that everyone has an opinion on what we should name our baby, but once we have set it in stone, there's no going back. I'm so ready to find out the sex so I can start planning the nursery. I have been thinking about our nursery for over a year now. It's so exciting that it is almost time for me to start on those plans! On a side note, I'm so excited for New Moon to come out. I know I'm a dork, but I've read all the books and really enjoy seeing them come to life. Even though Edward is not like I pictured, and Bella needs acting lessons, I still enjoy watching them. Yes, I will be dragging Matt to see it. Last year we went and saw it with our friends Jason and Jeanne. I think we will do the same this year. But I won't be able to fight through the crowds to grab good seats like I did last time. Oh well. If we get bad seats, that will just give me an excuse to go see it again! I think that is it for now. I will probably have more stuff to post later on. Don't give up!

15 week update

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

Vote!

I put up a poll on the right side of my blog. You get to vote for whether you think our baby will be a boy or girl! I want to hear what you all think.

14 weeks

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him - a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches - about the size of a lemon - and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces.

His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of the week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week - a sign that it's doing its job right - and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet are more flexible and active.

On a side note, we find out what we are having in less than 2 1/2 weeks!!

Crazy Weekend

My sister and nieces came this past weekend. They definitely kept me busy. Never a dull moment when they're around. Here are some pictures from the weekend as well as my 13 1/2 week picture.

This was after Brandy made me shop all day Saturday. I look exhausted!
The girls painting pumpkins!

Pulling all the pumpkin seeds out.

13 Week Update

Here is the 13 week update:

Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head - which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.

Doctor's Visit 10/21/09

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment. Everything went well. We got to hear the heartbeat again which is so cool. The nurse said we would get to hear it every time which makes a nervous momma very happy. The heart rate was 156 which my mom says is a boy, but I guess we will have to wait and see. My next appointment is the 16th of November, and this is the appointment where we find out the sex of the baby! I'm so excited. I will be 16 1/2 weeks by that time. So far I feel pretty good. I can now take my vitamins without worry that I am going to spit them back up. I can eat almost anything, though Taco Soup has a really strong smell to me. I had my first craving the other night. Matt left to go watch some of the youth kids play baseball, and I of course took a nap. I dreamt of a Reeses' peanut butter blast from Sonic. I called Matt right away, and since he is such a great husband, he brought one home to me! Anyways, that's all that is going on right now.

Weekend with the Parents

My parents came this past weekend to pay us a visit. They brought along a truck load of baby stuff from my sister's house. I was so excited! It actually looks like we have a baby on the way in our house. Here are just a couple of pictures of all the awesome stuff my sister gave us.

Mom is starting to sort through the chaos!
I love this bassinet! You can take the top off and it becomes a changing table.
A cute jumperoo!

A picture of some of the toys the baby will get to play with.

The baby won't be able to ride on this until close to a year, but it is still exciting!

Another toy that will have a wait a while, but that will be so much fun to play on!

Little bathtub for a little baby.

Diaper Genie

Crib sheets, bassinet sheets, and hangers

Those were just some of the things that Brandy sent us. I didn't take a picture of all the bottles, cups, bowls, bottle warmer, and breast pump. We'll see what Brandy brings this coming weekend when she visits. It already feels like Christmas!
